If it is all about The Money…
Many authors write and publish books simply because they love to write. Some authors write because they have a lot to say and plenty of time to write it. And still other authors write because they love to make money selling books. If you are the money minded author, this section is for you!
We have discussed in earlier sections about Self Publishing and Traditional Publishing. But the biggest difference in Traditional Publishing vs Self Publishing is in the Money.
If you are selling a traditional bound book, and you are a published author, have a contract with a publishing company, have several successful books that you have already published, your publisher may give you a generous royalty or commission of 15% on the books sold. This means that a book selling for $20, you earn $3.
On the other hand, the same book self published generally costs $10 or less to print, bind and publish. If you sell the book for $20 and it costs you $10, your royalty or commission is 50% or $10 on each book sold.
To make $1,000, you would have to sell 100 self published books. You would have to sell 334 traditionally published books to make $1,000.
For digital publishing, there would be no difference in commission because the digital process would be the same for Traditional or for Self Published books.
